Dungeon Master
Not all that long ago, Dungeons & Dragons was ruining our youth. If only they'd known where it would go from there...

I'll leave it at that.

Heh, say "gargoyles" again.
Sweet Jesus.
I only recently got interested in D&D. (I'm in my 30's, I guess I'm a late bloomer.) The backlash from the mid 80's media frenzy is still embedded in the minds of people. My wife has actually had to defend the fact that I've been playing.
"It's a game! They move their little men around on a grid and roll dice."
These are sensible adults that she is talking to. But you say D&D and people still automatically assume you are worshiping Satan.
My response is always, "Once we get done with the ritual blood sacrifice at the start of the evening we hardly worship satan at all."

I hardly think of Dungeons & Dragons as a violent game... good god, Battleship is more violent than Dungeons & Dragons.
D&D's current day counter part is more prominent cause of death and illness.
4chan?
Friends of mine tried to teach me to play 'Magic: The Gathering' last weekend. And I thought poker was complicated.

No, it is the cold truth. In my youth, when 'friends' learned of my enjoyment of the game, I was branded a devil worshiper. It may not be as blatant today as it was then, but the organized religious reich of today still yells long and hard how anything that is even remotely different from their close minded views is evil and should be removed from the world.
It still weird to me to think back to that era, my father was a minister and my mom played for the church, and yet somehow they missed out on the "D&D is from Satan" meeting that all the religious organizations had. They actually *made* my brother and I play D&D because it was something we did together. Across town, a friend of mine got grounded because his mom caught him watching the D&D cartoon.
Meanwhile, in Crazyville, several years after I graduated from high school they tried to ban RPGs from the school ground. Two of my friends, one a teacher and one a lawyer, went back to speak at the forum and explain how using one's imagination was not actually a fast track to hell.

And Locktite, yes, the feelings potrayed in this segment, that D&D is a hideous sin, leads you to a life of evil, glorifies devil worship, those are all absolutely true sentiments that we faced as kids.
Just like 15 years from now, people will say "What? They used to think that a video game where you steal cars and shoot people made kids steal cars and shoot people?"
And whatever the entertainment of that day is will be horrifying.
Rinse, repeat.

What the hell is wrong with devil worship anyway?
Yeah, well - you can laugh all you want, but just remember that Marilyn Manson caused Columbine.
OMG THEY WERE SMOKING IN THE COURT HOUSE!!!
sigh...good ol days...

Game's simple, it's the fact there's aboot 4000 different cards that makes things complicated. :)
This video rolled a natural 20 on the hilarity check. One more roll... and another natural 20!
CRITICAL FUNNY!

I think all of this side steps the real issue: Witchcraft.

that said some of those Dianics certainly had prouder facial hair than I'd expect from an all female religion.

And Lo! It was Destiny for it to be reiterated:
Jesus saves. The rest of you take damage.

I wonder how the obesity epidemic correlates with the rise of these retarded fantasy games.
people talk as if worshiping satan is any worse than worshiping god. all you're doing is wasting your time arguing whose imaginary friend is better. how about we move past these religious superstitions already and make some progress...

I can't tell you the last time I saw a fat nerd. You won't outrun a jock if you're packing an extra 50 pounds.
I thought we were discussing dorks. My bad.
That's the second part of a Canadian documentary:
Here's the first part
Of equal note:
60 Minutes report on D&D dangers
And the real coup de gras:
"Debate" with a TSR representative and a batshiat crazy person with a psychiatric degree

That's exactly the fast track to hell. Or agnosticism, depending on what side of the divide you're on.
In this feature-length documentary, Troy James Hurtubise goes face to face with Canada's most deadly land mammal, the grizzly bear. Troy is the creator of what he hopes is a grizzly-proof suit, and he repeatedly tests his armour – and courage – in stunts that are both hair-raising and hilarious. Directed by Peter Lynch, the film has become a cult classic in the United States and is rumoured to be a favourite of director Quentin Tarantino.
