Alpine Coaster
This is a single-pipe alpine coaster in Mieders, Austria. You reach the summit via a cablecar and then sit on a small car with a brake lever and off you go. Having ridden it once using a little braking, I decided to try it a second time without using the brakes.

Looks like fun!
I so want to go there and ride that.
What a gorgeous ride. I'm very jelly.
I want to see shots of the car itself.

There it is!
How can you let multiple people ride at one time?!?

rode one of these in germany, a lot of fun
Wow. That looks awesome! I generally don't ride coasters because I get freaked out by the height and the hills and the general "out of control feeling", but this I might be able to do... although I'm not sure about the 'no brakes' thing.
Totes Jellis
Whistler/Blackcomb has one... a much lamer much much shorter one.
Up to you to brake with other people on the track? It's like the autobahn. It could never happen in the US.
Yeah that would be lots of fun, until you catch up to some pansy laying on the breaks for the rest of the ride.
Attitash Mountain in NH has a sort of trough version of this. My father tried to do it without brakes and got hurled out of the trough. Attitash alpine slide
For those of you without speakers, here's what it sounds like:
SHHHHHHHHHHHHSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSHHHHHHHHHHHHSSSSSSSSSSSSSSHHHHHSSSSSSHHHHHHH
<barely audible talking>
SHHHHHHHHHHHHHSHSHSHHHHHHHHHHHHHHSHSHSHSHSHSHHHHHHSSSHHHHHHHHHHHHHHSSSSSSSSSSSSS SHHHHHHHHHHHHHSHHHHHHHHHSSSSSSSSSSSSSSHHHHHHHHHHHHHSSSSSSSSSSSHSSSSSSSSSSHHHHHHH
SHHHHHHHHHHHHSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSHHHHHHHHHHHHSSSSSSSSSSSSSSHHHHHSSSSSSHHHHHHH
<barely audible talking>
SHHHHHHHHHHHHHSHSHSHHHHHHHHHHHHHHSHSHSHSHSHSHHHHHHSSSHHHHHHHHHHHHHHSSSSSSSSSSSSS SHHHHHHHHHHHHHSHHHHHHHHHSSSSSSSSSSSSSSHHHHHHHHHHHHHSSSSSSSSSSSHSSSSSSSSSSHHHHHHH
We had one of those things in B.C. that we just called a bobsled. It was a tub and the sled just had wheels though rather than the track. Very cool though.
I've gone on the Attitash one, pretty cool.
last time I went hurtling into the tulies n' stumps, at least there were 9 other kids on that car hood to add drag.
I waited patiently for him to be thrown free and reduced to a meat crayon. Never happened.
Good lord, how LONG is this thing? It's spectacular!
I tried Googling it, but all I can find is hundreds of people linking the same video. I wanna find out more about the coaster itself.
I don't think the break is generally meant to be used, so I think he's playing up the idea that "no one is this EXTREME!! when they ride it!"
The brake's probably essential because they probably run it with many people on the track at one time, and there's a risk of crashing into the rider in front of you.
Of course, once one person brakes, then the next person has to brake too, slowing the whole line down. I think he got lucky and got to ride it when the entire track was clear so he didn't have to use the brake.

Look Ma! No Hans! Seriously though, looks awesome.
I've ridden the "tube style" version of this at Bromley Mountain in Vermont. I think I will stick with that one. Definitely much shorter, but a lot more switchbacks. This one looks like a beautiful ride, but I got bored watching it after awhile. Additionally, you definitely need the brakes on the tube style slides. You can completely fly out of the track otherwise. Happened to a buddy of mine. He melted his pants on impact with the track.
*books passage to Austria*
I looked for a clip of quagmire at the stripclub so people could know what the guy in this video sounds like.
"Woahhhh."
"Woahhhhhhh."
"Woahhhhooohhhhooooaaaaa."

Just a note for the future, brown marks on your pants? Not melted.
I remember taking a class trip to a place with an alpine slide
and several of my friends ended up with massive bloody road rash on their arms
from going too fast and flying off the track or crashing into people.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Action_Park of NJ, AKA "Traction Park", was famous for its many dangers and constant stream of injuries, their Alpine Slide ride was one of the top injury producers. It was a wheeled cart and a brake lever which might or might not work running down a concrete semicircular track.
Apparently, you were LUCKLY if you got thrown clear of the ride completely. If you got dumped and stayed in the tube, meat crayon time. Scores of fractures and head injuries, at least one fatality.
That place was real popular back in the 80's. In the mid-90's, the litigious nature of the US was into full gear and no insurance company would touch the place anymore.
And the Alpine Slide wasn't even what Action Park was most famous for. They made an enclosed looping waterslide that was almost never used because the rider almost always got bloody noses or back injuries for even TRYING it. There was just no way the body could take being accelerated and suddely spun 360 degrees lengthwise like that.
On the whole, Wikipedia there has a hilarious list of outrageously dangerous, ill-thought-out rides they used as staples.
Okay, action park was not done in by "the litigious nature of the US", action park was done in because it hungered for blood like an Aztec temple. Being one of the more dangerous rides at action park is a fucking accomplishment.

I came here for four things: beer, bitches, babes, and the pool.
